A very Berry Christmas

Over the weekend, I ate Turkey and I mean a lot of turkey. I'd gone to a friends party and the ONLY thing (I thought) I could eat, was turkey. Well, I forgot that Turkey does not agree with me from my experience over Thanksgiving. Sure enough, about an hour after eating it, I felt unwell and really tired. It took me all of three days to get over the fatique and stomach problems. As a result, I didn't try anything new until yesterday. As the title suggest, it was a berry.

Strawberries!

I think they're going to work out for me. I've had no major stomach upsets and feel pretty good. But the fact that I did have some issues suggest that I'd better challenge them again after I'm off the antibiotics (on the 20th yeah!!!). The major problem with strawberries is that, they aren't in season. In order to reintroduce this food, I took whole, frozen, unsweetened berries and blended them up into smooties (I'm having a morning protein shake now per the Dr's orders). Yesterday I had three such shakes with strawberries, my normal one at breakfast along with one for afternoon snake and one for a bedtime snack. You'd think I'd get all berried out but they were all berry delicious. Maybe I just miss strawberries. In any case, it looks like berries are on the menu for Christmas!

Pork n' Beef

So faithful reader, last we left off with my peanuts (better be good for me but probably aren't) challenge. This week, I re-introduced beef, on Monday, and Pork today. The beef didn't seem to give me any troubles at all so It'll be introduced back into my diet once again (although with the Mad Cow madness, I think I'll make certain to buy it from Whole Foods).

Pork, however, seems to make me really, really tired. I didn't feel too bad after the breakfast bacon. But after my lunchtime pork chop, I fought to keep my eyes open. I perked up after about an hour or so, and thought it might just be an afternoon lull. I had a few strips of bacon for snack while on my way to my voice lesson. The whole drive up to SF, I could hardly keep my eyes open. Again, I thought, maybe I was just tired from work, and perked up after about an hour. Finally, I ate my dinner porkchop. And now, I feel as if I can barely keep my eyes open. Bare in mind it's only 8:30 pst and I tend to be a night owl.

I guess pork doesn't agree with me either.... Boo!

I'm still holding out hope for chocolate!!!

Yesterday I challenged my system with peanuts. It was supposed to be pork, but it smelled as if that had turned even though the grocery store expiration had not passed. I even went so far as to cook it up, thinking, maybe it was the smell of raw meat that was getting to me. But alas and alack, when I tasted the cooked meat on Thursday morning, I realized that it had turned. *sigh*. So, now I was left with the option of waiting a hole 'nother day to start the challenge or just trying something else. Hence, peanuts! They are easy to get from vending machines and fairly plentiful.

I tried them first for lunch and then later, for a snack. Last night I ate a handful with dinner. I thought I'd made it through this challenge unscathed, but this morning, I had somewhat loose bowels. I'm not certain that it was actually the peanuts that did it. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part... Anyway, I'll see how the next couple days go. I'll challenge with another food on Monday, since I have an audition Sunday and don't want to risk getting sick beforehand. I'll try peanuts again on the third day of another challenge and see if they really do bother me.

Right now it looks like I'm 0 for 3 for these reintroduced foods. *sigh*
